Cameron boys lose in regional title game to Wright City Lumberjax to see season come to an end

April 28, 2012

CAMERON — Last fall, the Cameron Yellowjackets missed out on two trips to state, losing both the championship and consolation championship game in the Class A Regional Tournament. The same ill fate happened to them once more.
The Yellowjackets lost 6-4 to the Wright City Lumberjax in the title game of the Class A Regional Tournament Thursday afternoon.
Cameron reached the regional title game as it outlasted Okay 11-10 in Friday afternoon's first game.
The Yellowjackets split their two games in Thursday's action, run ruling Okay 15-4 in the opener before losing 3-1 to Wright City in the winner's-bracket final.
In the regional title game, the Lumberjax, who trailed 4-2 in the sixth inning, scored four runs in their half of the inning to take a 6-4 lead. Then, Wright City's pitcher retired the ’Jackets (17-12) in order in the seventh inning to punch its ticket to state.
In Friday's win over Okay, the ’Jackets broke a 7-7 tie with a four-run sixth inning to take an 11-7 lead.
But the Mustangs, who were run ruled Thursday by Cameron, would not go down without a fight.
Okay scored three runs in the seventh inning to make it 11-10, but pitcher Alex Humphries got the two of the next three batters out to win the game. Humphries finished the game with seven Ks.
In Thursday's win over Okay, the ‘Jackets jumped out to a 7-0 lead after an inning and never looked back.
In the winner's-bracket final loss to Wright City, the Yellowjackets broke a scoreless tie with a run in the second inning, but the ’Jax scored twice in the sixth inning and once in the seventh inning to snatch the win away.
