Cameron boys pull off first upset of tournament, stun Spiro; fifth-seeded PKMS Lady Raiders handle fourth-seeded Wister in girls quarterfinals

It took two days, but the first upset of the 2012 LeFlore County Junior High Tournament took place Tuesday afternoon at Poteau High School's Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
The Cameron Yellowjackets, seeded sixth, upset the third-seeded Spiro Bulldogs 37-34.
However, the other top boys seeds and three of the top four girls seeds advanced to Friday's championship semifinals.
In other boys championship quarterfinals at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse, host and top-seeded Pansy Kidd Middle School handled Panama 36-12, fourth-seeded Heavener doubled up Howe 30-15 and second-seeded Wister defeated Talihina 50-23.
In the girls championship quarterfinals at Pansy Kidd Middle School's Upper Gym, the fifth-seeded, and tournament-host, PKMS Lady Raiders handled the fourth-seeded Wister Lady Wildcats 42-20.
The top three girls seeds advanced to Friday's championship semifinals. Top-seeded Spiro held off Bokoshe 31-24, No. 2 Hodgen handled Heavener 40-24 and third-seeded Howe was too much for Panama in a 47-16 victory.
Friday's championship semifinals will take place at Carl Albert State College's Mick Thompson Fieldhouse. Girls semifinals will have Howe and Hodgen will play at 5 p.m., while Spiro and PKMS will play at 6:15 p.m. The winners will play for the championship at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse, while the losers will play for third place at 5 p.m. Saturday.
On the boys side, Cameron and Wister will meet at 7:30 p.m., followed by PKMS and Heavener at 8:45 p.m. The two victors will vie for the county crown at 8:45 p.m. Saturday at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse, while the losers will meet for third place at 6:15 p.m.
Today will be the consolation semifinals and the games to decide the teams vying for fifth place for this season's event.
Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse will have the boys' games. The Arkoma-Fanshawe winner from Wednesday will play the Pocola-Whitesboro winner at 4:45 p.m. this afternoon, while the Monroe-Hodgen winner will face the Bokoshe-Leflore winner at 6 p.m. tonight. The winners will play for the consolation championship at 7:15 p.m. Friday at PKMS.
Spiro and Talihina will play at 7:15 p.m. tonight at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse, followed by Panama and Howe at 8:30 p.m. The winners will play at 3:45 p.m. Saturday at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse for fifth place.
PKMS will be the site today and tonight for the girls consolation semifinals and contests to determined the teams playing for fifth place on Saturday. The Leflore-Pocola winner from Wednesday will face the Arkoma-Fanshawe winner at 4:45 p.m. this afternoon, while the Cameron-Talihina winner will play the Monroe-Whitesboro winner at 6 p.m. tonight. The two winners will play for the consolation championship at 6 p.m. Friday at PKMS.
Panama and Heavener will play at 7:10 p.m., followed by Bokoshe and Wister at 8:30 p.m. tonight at PKMS. The winners will meet to decide fifth place at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
