KODY WHITEHEAD

Making next week's Class 2A State Tournament at Enid's Oakwood Country Club, which will be Monday and Tuesday, was not as hard as it might have seemed to others for Cameron senior Kody Whitehead. He had to go into a playoff for the fourth and final individual berth to state at Monday's Class 2A Regional Tournament at Pryor Creek Golf Course. However, since he was the highest placing individual, he was going to make state anyway, but there were still nerves for the Yellowjacket golfer.
“I was going to make it to state whether I won the playoff or not because I was the first individual to qualify out of the six spots they had for state,” said Whitehead, who will play in his third straight state tournament. “It was still nervy going into a playoff. I have confidence in what I can do on the golf course, though, and I think that's why I pulled away with the playoff win.”
To make state for the third straight spring was something special for Whithead.
“Going to the state tournament is every high school golfer's dream,” he said. “You can ask any athlete what it means to make it to the state tournament and they'd say 'Everything.' Certainly it means a lot to make it to the state tournament, but that's not my ultimate goal. I'm going for a state ring.”
