McALESTER — Cameron High School baseball player Austin Standridge was hoping to get a chance to play for a state title during his season season — fall and/or spring — but it didn't materialize. However, he still will have a trophy for his trophy case.
Standridge won the Southeast Baseball Coaches All-Star Game's Home Run Derby Wednesday night at Mike Deak Field. He hit 14 homers total on the night. He doubled the homer output of runner-up Johnathan Samuels by a count of 8-4 in the final round.
Another local product, Talihina's Austin Lawson, tied for second place in the opening round with four homers, but did not advance to the finals.
The good news for both Standridge, Lawson and Cameron's Dale Pearson was that they were on the winning team of Wednesday night's Southeast Baseball Coaches Association's All-Star Game as the North downed the South 12-3.
Standridge went 1-for-3 with a walk and got on base by being hit by a pitch. The hit resulted in his only run batted in for the game in the first inning.
Lawson 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs including a two-run shot over the left-center fence in the seventh inning.
Pearson recorded four strikeouts in two innings of work, and played the remainder of his innings in the outfield. The South scored a run run on him in the first inning after giving up a single and the catcher committing a passed ball. Batting, Pearson went 1-for-3 with a walk and a fielder's choice — both resulting in RBIs.
