Cameron teams make district title games, but lose to Kiowa

February 12, 2013

CAMERON — The good news is that the Cameron High School basketball teams picked up wins Friday night in the Class A District Tournament to make Saturday night's title games — and assure another week's worth of practice.
The bad news was the Cameron teams ran into buzz saws called the Kiowa Cowgirls and Cowboys in the championship games.
The Cowgirls stung the Lady Yellowjackets 77-36 in Saturday night's title game, then the Cowboys lassoed the ’Jackets 71-45.
Both Cameron teams eliminated Panola's teams on Friday night, with the girls winning 58-17 for their second win of the season and the boys posting a 61-40 victory.
Both the Lady Yellowjackets (2-22) and the ’Jackets (9-16) will still advance to this week's Class A Regional Tounament as the district runner-up teams. Both teams will face Smithville at 1:30 p.m. (girls) and 3 p.m. (boys), respectively, on Thursday. Both teams must win three games in three days to advance to next week's Class A Area Tournament at the McAlester Expo Center.
