CASC Softball Festival canceled due to threat of rain this afternoon

February 18, 2012

Due to today's 70-percent chance of rain, Carl Albert State College Softball Coach David Holt announced that the two-day Carl Albert Softball Festival, slated for today and Sunday at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex, has been canceled.
This two-day event was to feature not only the host Lady Vikings, but five Kansas schools, two other Oklahoma schools and a Texas school.
The City of Poteau and Mayor Jeff Shockley had become big backers of the event as it was going to be a great way to not only promote the CASC campus and softball program, but the city and its businesses.
The PARC and its staff had been working hard to try to get the fields ready for two days worth of action. But when Holt discovered that the forecast of 70 percent chance of rain today, he believed that there was no other choice than to cancel the event, since most of the non-Oklahoma teams were coming about a day's journey away.
“I hate to do it, with all the work and planning that's gone into it,” Holt said.
The Lady Vikings will return to action Tuesday afternoon for a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Independence, Kan.
