Celebrating the scary

October 26, 2011

Every year, Carl Albert
State College film students
release the horrors of their
dark imaginations at the
annual Cinemortis Student
Film Festival. This year,
CASC film students are
inviting the public to take
a trip into their own twisted
and sleep-deprived subconscious.
The theme for
this year’s Cinemortis
Film Festival is
Nightmares.
On Thursday, October
27 at 7 p.m. in the Hamilton
Auditorium on CASC’s
Poteau campus, CASC
Film Studies instructor
Marcus Blair and students
invite you to witness a
slate of films that will
scare, disgust, and delight
you.
“Each film in competition
will contain at least
one nightmare that a student
filmmaker actually
had. We thought it would
be terrifying to take the
audience into a place with
no rules and the filmmakers
have enjoyed working
in the abstract world of
dreams,” said Blair.
Admission to the film
festival is free, however,
audience members will be
expected to vote on their
favorite film in the competition.
The film that
receives the most votes
will win the coveted
Audience Choice Award.
Blair continued, “All of
the Cinemortis films will
be frightening
and contain realistic
special
effects, therefore
children
will not be
admitted. This is
the seventh year
we’ve had
Cinemortis and
the goal is
always the same
– to give our
students a place
to showcase
their work. We
know the community
will
appreciate what
the students
have accomplished.”
According to
Blair, CASC
film students
have been working
for several
months to complete the
films to be shown at the
festival. CASC film students
presenting films
include Ryan Baker,
Brittany Le Roux, Jessi
Brigance, Brett Lampkin,
Andrea Owens, Sarah
Shores, Michael Welch,
Destiny Stine, and Jessica
Hunt.
