Choctaw Nation offers assistance

The PDN received this press release from the Choctaw Nation rgarding the winter storm:As the winter storms are pushing their way through Southeast Oklahoma, the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma is taking measures to offer assistance to the affected communities and Tribal Members. We have been working with the local County and City Emergency Managers in a joint effort to provide assistance where needed. Significant freezing rain and dropping temperatures over several days may cause major power outages in some areas. At this point we have placed emergency generators at four Choctaw Community Centers and are preparing to help the community and our Tribal Members with emergency shelter if needed. These centers are located in Hugo, Antlers, Poteau, and McAlester. In addition, the new community center in Atoka has a generator as well. Volunteers are preparing to be on-site to offer assistance. If schools in your areas are closed, Choctaw administrative offices and clinics are also closed. For Choctaw Nation Tribal Members in need of a assistance, please call the Tribal Headquarters at 800-522-6170 for the Emergency Services Division. You may also check to see if your local center is available as well. Travel may be very difficult for a couple days but we will do our best to provide emergency services to the Tribal Members and the community as a whole in a timely manner.
