Class 2A, 3A, 4A district assignments coming out by Thursday afternoon

The Class 2A, 3A and 4A district playoff assignments will be announced, likely Thursday afternoon, by the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association.
As is customary, there will be two teams in each district in Class 3A and 4A.
However, due to reclassification in Class 2A, most districts will end up having three teams in them instead of the customary two. That means there will be an elimination game on Friday, Feb. 17. For instance, you could have Howe, Pocola and Wister all put into the same district. All three boys teams will have double-digit win totals, but one of them will be eliminated on opening night of the Class 2A District Tournament. I know Howe Lions Coach Shane Brown is not too happy with the OSSAA's decision to reclassify things in Class 2A.
Spring Sports Guide to be Published March 24
I know, you all are saying to yourselves why am I putting something about spring sports into my basketball column.
Simple — I wanted you all to know that the 2012 Spring Sports Guide will be in the March 24 edition, which is the Saturday edition at the end of Spring Break week.
Within the next 10 days or so, all the spring coaches will be receiving their respective sport's questionnaire to fill out and return with their schedule to me by no later than March 16, which is the Friday prior to Spring Break beginning.
Between now and March 16, team photos will need to be taken. However, for softball and baseball, in all likelihood the photos which ran in the 2011 Fall Diamond Tab will suffice for their respective team photo — unless some new players are out who were not in the fall team photo, or some players who were in the fall team photo will not play this spring which means a new team photo will need to be taken.
I'll keep putting subtle notices like this into the paper between now and then to help remind everyone.
Thanks, Katie Shore
Again, stepping away from this column's basketball theme, I want to thank Katie Shore and her helpers for running a great hospitality room at this weekend's Maverick Conference Wrestling Tournament. I even went out on Friday just so I could partake of all the goodies which were there. I must say I got plenty of food on both days, which made this humble sports writer a very happy camper.
Good work, Katie — and thanks.
