One week after a county commissioner meeting in which residents along 206th Street near Spiro sought to have their road proclaimed private, the commissioners announced today [July 30] they would hold a public hearing regarding the matter.
On Monday the commissioners approved holding a public meeting for input on the pending closure of the road.
On July 22, several residents spoke during the commissioner meeting about traffic along their road, which they believed was private. Commissioner Derwin Gist requested the Sheriff's Department remove the signs.
Several residents said the confusion connected to the privacy of the road stemmed from the U.S. Postal Service refusing to deliver mail along the road, telling the residents it was a private street.
The public hearing will be held in the LeFlore County Commissioners meeting room on Aug. 19 at 9:30 a.m.
