Controlled hunt results are in, and some more fishing

GUNNER GOT IT — Gunner McAlester, son of Wister High School Baseball Coach John McAlester, poses with this 2.5-pound bass he caught last week on a pond near Wister. He used a rattletrap for bait. Photo by George Midgley

Earlier this week, I went online to see if any of my family members drew out on a controlled hunt put on by the Oklahoma Wildlife Department of Conservation. For the first time since I have been putting in, not one of us in this house drew out. If you have not checked your results, go to the wildlife department's website, and click the big box on its home page.
I looked online, and I noticed that they are stocking Mountain Fork River today with trout. That makes for some really great fishing. Load up the family and head down to the river. The water is cool, and the fun never ends. Take your camera because it will be a day full of memories!

Gunner McAlester, his dad, Wister High School Baseball Coach John McAlester, and I went on a short fishing trip last week to a small lake over near Wister. I really wanted Gunner to catch a good fish, and I felt pretty good with his chances to do just that. John caught several small fish early, and I also caught a few. However, nothing would bite on Gunner’s lure. That all changed when he tied on a rattletrap and caught a 2.5-pound bass. It was a show watching him reel it in, and that big smile while he was holding it was awesome.
Have a great weekend!
