Convicted robber gets life in prison

March 4, 2013

John Thomas Akin, 28, of Poteau, was sentenced to life in prison Friday afternoon.

A man accused of robbing a Heavener store has been sentenced to life in prison by District Judge Jon Sullivan.
John Thomas Akin, 38, of Poteau, was convicted of conjoint robbery by a jury in January. He was accused of robbing the El Soliceto store in Heavener in April. He was charged in the crime after a forensic report from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation matched a palm print taken from the cash register to Akin.
On Friday he appeared before Sullivan who sentenced him to life in prison, confirming the suggested sentence given by the jury.
Akin's partner, Dara Chun, 26, of Howe, was sentenced to 10 months after he entered a guilty plea in relation to the crime. Chun received credit for time served and has since been released from the LeFlore County Detention Center.
