Corps announces campground closings for season

May 16, 2013

The Army Corps of Engineers announced Tuesday that area campgrounds that are maintained by the department will remain closes for the 2013 season.
Camp sites at Short Mountain Cove, Applegate Cove, Cowlington and Dam site day-area will not be open for use this year.
The Corps blames the closures on recent budget cuts that leave a financial shortfall resulting in the department not being able to hire contract employees to maintain the campgrounds. Officials are unsure how long the monetary restraints will remain in place.
"Next year's opening possibilities are dependent on the budget," said Ross Adkins, Corps chief of public affairs. "We have high hope next year we will be back open."
