I'm now in my third year to be a part of the LeFlore County Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament. My first two years were very enjoyable, and I'm looking forward to a third.
If the seeding holds true, it will be a Poteau-Panama final. If that happens, it will be the first time they have met since their Aug. 28 contest at Poteau in which the Lady Pirates prevailed 1-0 in 14 innings in a game which lasted nearly 3.5 hours.
However, another team coming in hot is the Talihina Lady Golden Tigers, fresh off winning last weekend's Kiowa Tournament.
Spiro's Kaylee Cox is one of the best pitchers in the county, so never count out the Lady Bulldogs.
So, we'll see what unfolds this week at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.
Your “LeFlore County Tournament Central” headquarters is The Poteau Daily News.
By the way — when I list the schedule at the end of the column, it won't have the County Tournament schedule, since I put the bracket in Saturday's edition. It will just have the non-tournament games and the fall baseball schedule.
The 2012 Class 3A, 2A, A and B fast-pitch softball as well as the 2012 fall baseball district assignments were handed out late last week by the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association.
In Class 3A softball, Spiro will visit Heavener in a district tournament.
In Class 2A, all four county softball teams will get to stay in the county for their district tournament as rivals Panama and Pocola will do battle in Panama and Talihina will visit Wister.
In Class A softball, Arkoma was named a host site as the Lady Mustangs will welcome Cameron and Gans to town. Howe will visit Keota in a battle of Lady Lions in another district tournament.
In Class B, Bokoshe's girls and McCurtain will visit Red Oak for one district tournament, while Whitesboro and Eagletown will visit Battiest for another district tournament.
The Poteau Lady Pirates will find out where they will go for their district tournament at the end of this week or early next week.
In Class A baseball, none of LeFlore County's three teams was kept home. Wister and Wilson (Henryetta) were sent to Preston for a district tournament, Cameron and Okay were sent to Oktaha and Howe was sent to Smithville along with Haworth.
The same thing happened to our two Class B baseball teams, Leflore and Whitesboro. Leflore, Panola and Kinta were sent to Stuart for a district tournament, while Whitesboro, Eagletown and Caney were sent to Battiest.
The district tournaments for Class 3A through Class B in softball and all the fall baseball district tournaments will take place Sept. 20-22. As soon as district tournament game times and match-ups are set, if coaches, fans or anyone else of “The LeFlore County Community” can get those to me, I'd be forever grateful.
