With this being the last night of the regular season of high school football, there are a couple of key match-ups tonight.
Without a doubt, the blockbuster game is Pocola at Heavener. The winner is in the postseason, and rewarded with a road playoff game against Class 2A's third-ranked Stroud Tigers.
While there's no playoff berth at stake, tonight's Poteau game at Muldrow is intriguing since it pits new Muldrow coach, and former Poteau Assistant Coach Rob Johnson, against his former players and fellow coaching staff members. Needless to say the game will have the feeling of a major chess match that would make world-renown chess player Garry Kasparov proud.
There will be some other things which our LeFlore County teams will try to accompish.
In Class 3A, Spiro will seek a playoff berth with a win tonight over Stigler as well as a loss for Idabel to Hugo or Valliant to Atoka. If those things happen, the Bulldogs will return to the playoffs.
In Class 2A, the Panama Razorbacks will try to end the season with their second win of the season, and second in their last three games after snapping their 17-game losing streak Oct. 20 with a 21-20 victory over archrival Pocola at John Carter Field.
Also in Class 2A, the Talihina Golden Tigers will try to do something tonight no one has done so far this season, knock off undefeated, and fourth-ranked, Vian. It will be hard since the game is on the Wolverines' home field.
In Class C, the Arkoma Mustangs will try to turn tonight's road game against Claremore Christian into a playoff tune-up, since they will entertain the District C-3 third-place team, which will likely either be Covington-Douglas or Timberlake.
Within the same class, Bokoshe will try to end the regular season on a high note by defeating last year's District C-4 champion Maud.
Let the kickoffs commence, and see what unfolds.
