February 16, 2013

TARI CUMMINGS

Former University of Arkansas-Fort Smith (Westark College back then) player, and current Arkansas women’s assistant coach, Tari Cummings from Pocola was inducted earlier this month into the school’s Sports Hall of Fame.
Cummings played two seasons at UAFS (then Westark College), leading the Lady Lions to a combined 52-9 record, a NJCAA Region II Tournament championship and a seventh-place finish in the NJCAA National Tournament. Cummings, who was team captain for two seasons, scored 1,262 points as a Lady Lion and earned NJCAA All-American honors as a sophomore after averaging 23.3 points and 9.2 rebounds per game and shooting 65.5 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from 3-point range.
“It is truly a special place and one that I hold dear to my heart. I had amazing coaches and teammates my two years here,” said Cummings about playing at then-Westark College. “Not only were we successful on and off the court, but we were truly like a family. I have made some great lifelong friends, and I am very proud to be a Lady Lion.”
