DAVID SEELEY: Final Four

April 4, 2014

As I write this Friday night, we're on the eve of the men's and women's Final Four. The men's national semifinals will be Saturday night, followed by the women's national semifinals on Sunday. The men's national title game will be Monday night, while the women's championship game will be Tuesday night.
On the men's side, all things look like the Florida Gators will get their third national title within a 10-year span under coach Billy Donovan. However, in the mid 1960s, an upstart team from Texas Western University, now known as Texas-El Paso, under coach Don Haskins stunned Adolph Rupp's Kentucky Wildcats to win the national title. The movie, "Glory Road" that was made in 2006 is about that team and coach, who is an Enid, Okla., native — my hometown.
So, who knows.
On the women's side, it would appear that unbeatens Connecticut and Notre Dame are destined to play for the national title Tuesday night in Nashville, Tenn. However, Maryland knocked off a top seed to get to the Final Four, and Tara Vanderveer always has her Stanford team primed for Prime Time. So, the women's Final Four should be just as interesting.
All I know is my men's brackets in the pools I'm in are shot!!
