Despite Saturday's title game loss, 2013 was still a banner for Poteau Pirates football team

I was not even born when the Poteau Pirates lost the Class B title game to Fairview in 1946. I was 2 years old when the Pirates were defeated by Sayre in 1950 Class B title game.
My mother was also a Pirate fan, and she told me everything she remembered about both games, and I have always wanted to see the Pirates play in the game for the gold ball. I had that chance Saturday afternoon at Oklahoma State University's Boone Pickens Stadium.
The Pirates played for their first state football title in 63 years Saturday at OSU against the top-ranked Anadarko Warriors.
