ARLINGTON, Texas — The Arkansas Razorback offense started slow in several games this season and Friday night's 76th annual Cotton Bowl Classic against the Kansas State Wildcats was no different. The Hogs fought through some early adversity and eventually came out on top winning the game handily 29-16.
The Razorbacks (11-2) did not make a first down until their fifth possession of the game, almost midway through the second quarter. They did have a 10-0 lead at that point, thanks in part to a fumble by Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein which set up a 26-yard Zach Hocker field goal — and another electrifying punt return courtesy of Joe Adams. One would expect a better start from the Southeastern Conference leader in passing, but the Hogs have been notorious for slow starts all year long.
The ’Cats (10-3) played even colder than the Hogs early on in the game.
The Razorbacks maintained their 10-point lead until halftime. The Wildcats won the coin toss and deferred until the second half. They made the right choice when they drove 60 yards in seven plays to begin the third quarter, cutting the margin down to just a field goal after Klein's 6-yard touchdown run at 11:38 mark.
After Klein's TD, the Hogs, both offensively and defensively, were not going to be denied in this Cotton Bowl Classic. The offense scored 10 more points, and the defense held K-State scoreless for the rest of the game.
