DAV and DAVA Chapter #63 of the Disabled American Veterans of LeFlore County, Poteau, Okla. mission station is to “Help any veteran and their family.” This is completed through filing of claims for benefits provided by the Veteran Affairs Office. We provide, with advance notice, transportation to and from VA doctor appointments. We meet the second Tuesday each month with a potluck at 6 p.m. and meeting at 7 p.m. Membership is open to any veteran and family member including youth. We raise operating expenses through the donations for “Red Shirt Friday Until the Troops Comes Home” T-shirts and military hats. We are involved in both the Veterans Day activities for the schools and parade as well as the Christmas Parade. We are available when requested to give honors for a fallen veteran at their funeral. When a citizen is in need of help after a tragedy due to a fire, we try to provide replacement items. We are veteran citizens of LeFlore County and try to help with called upon for citizens and veterans alike.
