In Week 2, the two local 8-man teams, Arkoma and Bokoshe, began District C-4 play against each other.
With Friday night's games, the six 11-man teams started their real seasons, district play. Now, wins and losses as well as margins of wins and losses are extremely crucial.
I remember when I was at The Daily Ardmoreite, covering the Ardmore Tigers, it was the final game of the regular season as they faced Lawton MacArthur. The Tigers scored late to take a lead, and seeming the game.
However, on the ensuing kickoff, Ardmore attempted, and got, an onside kick. I was wondering why, since the game was pretty much in hand. Then, someone mentioned in the Noble Stadium press box that Ardmore had to win by more than a touchdown to get the district title, and two home playoff games and not just one. Sure enough, on the next play from scrimmage, Ardmore scored on about a 60-yard pass play with less than 30 seconds left to get the amount of points needed to get the top spot in the district.
This goes to show you just how important winning/losing margins can be.
