DOUGHERTY: Major college tourney time starts Wednesday for Oklahomans

March 18, 2013

It all starts Wednesday at 6 p.m. Central Daylight Time.

That's when the University of Tulsa, which drew a bid in the relatively unknown College Basketball Invitational Tournament, kicks major-college tourney action off for Oklahoma fans. The Golden Hurricane goes on the road to challenge the Wright State University Raiders of Dayton, Ohio. Wright State is a member of the Horizon Conference. Though the team nickname is the Raiders, the logo usually features a wolf.

No TV coverage has been anounced for the game.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma State University (24-8) was placed as a No. 5 seed in the NCAA's Midwest Regional, drawing the No. 12 seed Oregon Ducks (26-8) of the Pacific 10. The game, set for San Jose, Calif., will tip off at 3:40 p.m. CDT on Thursday and will be shown on the TNT cable network.

On Friday, the 10th-seeded University of Oklahoma Sooners (20-11) open play in the NCAA's South Region against the No. 7-seed San Diego State Aztecs (22-10) of the Mountain West Conference. They play at 8:20 p.m. CDT in Philadelphia. It will be televised on TBS.

There's no explaining why the Midwest Region game is in San Jose and the South Region game is in Philadelphia. Those are secrets that only the NCAA knows.
