Douglas Leroy Cooper, 85, of Cooper,
Texas, died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, at
Clyde Cosper Veterans Home in Bonham,
Texas. A graveside service will be held at
2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Vaughn
Cemetery in Gilmore. Visitation will be
from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Coker-Mathews
Funeral Home in Greenville, Texas.
Born April 29, 1926, in Monroe, Douglas
was the son of Bernnie Lee and Nora Dell (Bolton)
Cooper. On April 10, 1949, he married Betty Jo Callaway
in Mena, Ark. He served in the U. S. Army during World
War II. He was a retired Pentecostal Church of God minister
serving as a missionary for over 20 years in Navaho
Indian Missions in Oklahoma and New Mexico.
Survivors include his sons, Dan Cooper and wife Betty
of Greenville, and Charles Cooper and wife Sherry of
Leonard, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren;
one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife in 2009;
infant daughter Sonia Norene Cooper; six brothers Rob,
Other, Gaylan, Rayburn, Carrol, and Herbert Cooper; and
sister, Vaneila Clark.
