Down to six teams, five of which could make state

LeFlore County now has six high school basketball teams still alive in the playoffs — Poteau's girls (Class 4A), Spiro's teams (Class 3A), Howe's girls (Class 2A), Talihina's girls (Class 2A) and Wister's boys (Class 2A).As I stated in the headline of today's column, five of these schools have a shot at making next week's state tournaments. You wonder why not all six? That is because if the Lady Lions and the Lady Golden Tigers win their playoff games on Thurdsay, they will meet each other Friday afternoon — and one will knock the other out of the postseason. The complete playoff schedule is listed below.ScheduleThursdayClass 4AArea Tournamentat MuskogeePoteau girls vs. Jay, 1:30 p.m.Class 3AArea Tournamentat Fort GibsonSpiro boys vs. Coalgate, 3 p.m.Spiro girls vs. Wilburton, 6:30 p.m.Class 2AArea Tournamentat WilburtonTalihina girls vs. Rattan, 1:30 p.m.Howe girls vs. Sallisaw-Central, 6:30 p.m.Wister boys vs. Porter Consolidated, 8 p.m.FridayClass 4AArea Tournamentat MuskogeePoteau-Jay girls winner vs. Muldrow-Roland winner, 1:30 p.m.Class 3AArea Tournamentat Fort GibsonSpiro-Wilburton girls winner vs. Sequoyah-Tahlequah/Keys (Park Hill) winner, 1:30 p.m.Spiro-Coalgate boys winner vs. Hugo-Tulsa Victory Christian winner, 3 p.m.Class 2AArea Tournamentat WilburtonTalihina-Rattan girls winner vs. Howe/Sallisaw-Central winner, 1:30 p.m.Wister-Porter boys winner vs. Summit Christian-Rattan winner, 3 p.m.SaturdayClass 4AArea Tournamentat Muskogee1:30 p.m. Friday winner vs. Fort Gibson-Idabel girls loser, 6:30 p.m. (winner to state)Class 3AArea Tournamentat Fort Gibson1:30 p.m. winner vs. Salina-Kansas girls loser, 6:30 p.m. (winner to state)3 p.m. winner vs. Kansas-Keys (Park Hill) boys loser, 8 p.m. (winner to state)Class 2AArea Tournamentat Wilburton1:30 p.m. winner vs. Oktaha/Amber-Pocasset girls loser, 6:30 p.m. (winner to state)3 p.m. winner vs. Oktaha-Haworth boys loser, 8 p.m. (winner to state)
