WISTER — The 2013 Duck Martin Performance Improvement Training (PIT) Camp will take place Friday and Saturday at the Wister High School baseball field. Camp times will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with registration at 7:30 a.m. daily at the site, and campers can attend both days or just one day of the camp.
However, for the first time, numbers are low in the early stages of registration, which concerns Rodney Nobles, who is one of the camp directors.
“Right now, we don't have a lot of pre-registration entries,” Nobles said. “It's all paid for. I think the hardest thing is for the kids is that they think that since it's free that it's not worthwhile, or footballers think because it's in Wister that it's not worthwhile. [Poteau High School 2013 graduate and football player] Trevor Shankle is a perfect example. He took a chance to come over here, after working his rear off for two years. [Assistant] coach Justin Iske saw him, and ended up getting a full ride to Fort Hays State. So, we're proud of that. Anybody and everybody from age 8 to 18, we love to have them come. They can just come and show up that morning. All they need is to have a parent sign a release for them.”
