Early voting for Cameron sales tax begins Friday

Cameron residents will be able to vote Friday, Monday and Tuesday on a proposed sales tax.
"In-person absentee" ballots can be cast from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Monday at the LeFlore County Election Board, 103 N. Church in Poteau, according to LeFlore County Election Board Secretary Sharon Steele.
On Tuesday — the official election day — voters will cast their ballots from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Cameron School, which is the Precinct 1090 polling place.special municipal election is scheduled for Sept. 10. The proposal calls for a 2 percent sales and use tax to be used to fund city government.
Voters defeated the measure in November, 39 votes to 37, or 51.3 percent to 48.7 percent.
Voters in Oklahoma elections must be able to provide a valid photo identification card or their voter registrations card, Steele said.
Persons who become physically incapacitated by injury, childbirth or illness this week and and are unable to go to the polls may be able to vote on an emergency basis.
"If you think that you or someone you know fits this category, contact the county Election Board at (918) 647-3701 as soon as possible for more information," Steele said.
