Edna Lou Walkup

Edna Lou Walkup, 80, of Howe died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, in Poteau.
Edna, a lifelong area resident, was born Nov. 6, 1931, in Independence to Calvin and Mary (Fortner) Waymire. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Howe, where she worked in many areas, loving each person who came in contact with her. Edna worked for years in the day care at Heavener First Baptist Church, where she cared for many children from the area.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ewing Waymire, Bob Waymire and Eugene Waymire.
Survivors include her husband, John Walkup of Howe; two daughters, Kitty Beard and husband, Don, of Richardson, Texas, and Peggy Dill and husband, Denver, of Howe; two sons, John Walkup Jr. and wife, Carol, of Tulsa, and David Randall Walkup of Oklahoma City; five sisters, Ruby Wyse, Wanda Lorus, Rowena Usrey and husband Clyde, Odella Guinn, and Marcella Rush and husband Freddie; three sisters-in-law, Goldie Waymire, Marcella Waymire and Goldie Green; two brothers, Vester Waymire and wife, Vera, and Oderell Waymire and wife, Ruth Ann; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at First Baptist Church, Howe. Burial will be in Monroe Cemetery under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home, Heavener.
