Ella Louise Chumley

Ella Louise Chumley, 66, of Panama
died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011, in Fort
Smith, Ark. Ella was born July 29, 1945,
in Galveston, Texas, to Newlin Burg Jr.
and Waltina Nadean (Finley) Travis. Ella
was a retired teacher. In her career she
taught in Talihina, Catoosa and Pocola
Public Schools. Ella belonged to The
Delta Kappa Gamma Society International,
her professional organization for 30 years. She was currently
serving as DKG Beta Lambda Chapter Secretary
and on the DKG State Nominations Committee as well as
the Educational Excellence Committee. She was a past
chapter president and served on many other committees at
the chapter and state levels. Ella was a member of the
Bokoshe United Methodist Church, serving as Church
Treasurer and on the Advisory Board. Ella joined the
Fraternal Order of Eagle Auxiliary in March 2001. She
held many positions, including President in 2004 and
Secretary of the Auxiliary for six years. She was the
incoming State Madam President Elect 2011-2012. She
was also a member of the Memorial Ritual Team.
Survivors include her husband, Ronnie Gene Chumley
of Panama; daughters and son-in-law, Alana Janine and
Preston Plumlee of Broken Arrow, Alisha LeAnn Walker
of Poteau; son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie Travis and
Tiffany Chumley of Pocola; grandchildren, Alec, Ashley,
Austin, Aubrey and Aiden Plumlee; Bryant and Gage
Meeder, Tegan and Kyleigh Walker, Logan Burg Chumley;
great-grandchildren, Kloe Plumlee, Avery Fiddler, Bryce
and Kaleigh Meeder; brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy
Wayne and Jaine Travis of Broken Arrow, Newlin Burg
and Susan Travis of Spiro, Melvin Ray and Sue Travis of
Panama.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, at Bokoshe
United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bennie Waller
officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery,
Panama. Pallbearers will be Travis Chumley, Preston
Plumlee, Alec Plumlee, Austin Plumlee, Aiden Plumlee.
The family will visit with relatives and friends from 6-8
p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be in “In Memory of Ella
Chumley” to Ark-Ehrmann Cancer Fund, Local Oklahoma
