During the upcoming emergency preparedness expo to be held Sept. 21, runners will get a chance to take part in the first 5K run/walk held by organizers.
Participants of all ages are welcome to enter the "Race to Prepare" run that will begin at Carl Albert State College in Poteau. There will be special divisions for military personnel and first responders. Disabled American Veterans will be allowed free entry to participate in the event.
Early registration cost $20 per participant and ends on Sept 13. Registration is $25 the day of the race.
Participants will receive a T-shirt, drinks and snacks and during the event water and aid stations will be made available to participants.
The proceeds from the event will be used for future community emergency preparedness education efforts, according to organizers.
Also being offered during the Eastern Oklahoma Emergency Preparedness Expo is a free health and safety fair fro 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
The event will be held in the student center at CASC and organizers have arranged for more than 20 information tables on topics such as health, fitness, nutrition, emergency preparedness and more.
Free screening for diabetes, blood pressure, vision, cholesterol and dental will be available. Qualifying adults, children and teens can get a free T-Dap and Meningococcal vaccination.
