Eula Maye Stivers

September 30, 2011

Eula Maye Stivers, 90, of Del City died
Sept. 16, 2011, in Oklahoma City. Maye
was born Feb. 5, 1921, in Leflore. She was
the daughter of James Franklin and Nannie
Lou Borden. She was preceded in death by
her parents; daughter, Sandra Pollard;
brother, Robert L. Borden; sisters, Ruth
Mings, Rubye Parks and Rilla Wyatt;
grandson, Nathan Pollard.
Maye is survived by her daughter, Connie Stivers and
husband, John Nolen of Del City; granddaughter, Neile
Blackwell of Del City; grandson, Bryan Pollard and his
wife, Deepa of Tahlequah; many loved nieces, nephews,
and family members and dear friends. She is also leaving
behind her beloved pets; Rascal, Tootsie Clair, Newman
and Guss.
Emerson described success as when an individual has
“won the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of
children.” As a mother, grandmother, teacher, mentor and
friend, Maye’s beautiful example will live on in hearts
forever.
Maye was at the forefront of Oklahoma Education
Association’s early development working to ensure public
education would meet and exceed the needs of children
and the professionalism of teachers. She continued this
endeavor throughout her career. In one’s life you should be
so blessed to have been touched by Maye Stivers. She
retired as a teacher at Traub Elementary School, also
active in Political Action Committee, Retired Educators of
Oklahoma, ACT, OEA, Mid Del ACT, Eastern Oklahoma
County Democratic Committee and Traub Elementary
Teacher of the Year.
She loved politics, cooking and her flower gardens. Our
lives are so much richer as a result of our friendship, love,
nurturing and guidance. Many will be saddened by her
passing. She was a wonderful and very much loved mother,
grandmother, aunt and friend and will be greatly
missed. She is gone but will not be forgotten. We are all
very sad to lose her.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 at the
Leflore Baptist Church.
