Expert keynote speaker at fraud seminar

November 15, 2013

Two seminars regarding identity theft and internet security are to be held at the new Patrick Lynch Public Library.
Speaking is Elaine Dodd, a fraud specialist with the Oklahoma Bankers Association and a veteran of law enforcement. Dodd will address topics such as identity theft, debit and credit card fraud, current online scams, internet safety and much more. Protection for senior citizens, who are often the targets of such scams, also will be discussed.
"The OBA is the only bank association in the nation that has a fraud specialist on staff," said Central National Bank CEO Steve Holton. "It has been great for Oklahoma banks to have this resource and we have actually had Elaine speak with a number of our customers who were being targeted. She was able to convince them that they were being scammed and she has literally saved our customers thousands of dollars."
Dodd worked in law enforcement for 22 years, retiring in 1995 as the director of the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics. In 2003 Dodd joined the OBA and has been training thousands of bankers and private citizens in the state of Oklahoma. Poteau Police Chief Stephen Fruen attended a state meeting of Oklahoma Chiefs of Police, where he heard Dodd deliver a lecture over identity security.
"Elaine does an outstanding job addressing this growing problem and I thought that it would benefit the people of our community to bring her to Leflore County,” said Fruen. “This is an opportunity for our citizens to learn how to protect their personal information and avoid becoming fraud victims. I encourage everyone to attend one of these sessions.”
The seminars are scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 21, at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Both are free and open to the public. Both seminars are co-sponsored by the Poteau Police Department and Central National Bank.
