GLENPOOL — For the first time since back-to-back seasons in 2004 and 2005, the Poteau Pirates wrestling team will send four matmen to state.
At this past weekend's Class 4A Regional Tournament, Tyler Tustin, the two-time defending state champion, won the regional title at 138 pounds.
Derek Francis (170 pounds) was regional runner-up, while Devin Anderson (120) and Gabe Sanchez (195) were third and also qualified for this weekend's Class 4A State Tournament at Oklahoma City's State Fair Arena.
A fifth Pirate, Khy Mote, was fifth at 182 pounds, and is an alternate to state, if someone from the East side at 182 pounds cannot compete at state.
At the Class 3A Regional Tournament at Berryhill High School in Tulsa, the Talihina Golden Tigers did not have anyone place nor qualify for state.
