This yearâ€™s Kiamichi Outdoor
Sportsmanâ€™s Festival is September 9 and
The festival begins on Friday,
September 9 at 1 p.m. with a four man
scramble golf tournament at Choctaw
Country Club. Entry fee for the tournament
is $200 per team, and Poteau Main
Street is still looking for hole sponsors.
After the tournament, from 7 p.m. until 9
p.m. there will be live music and vendors
on Dewey Avenue in downtown Poteau.
The following day, September 10,
begins at â€śfirst safe lightâ€ť with a bass
fishing tournament at Quarry Island on
Wister Lake. Buy-in is $40 per head and
no limit to the amount of fishermen per
boat. Fishermen age 12 and under compete
for free. After the tournament, there
will be a live weigh-in on Dewey
At 10:30 a.m., there will be an archery
contest with an entry fee of $20 per person.

The Poteau Church of the Nazarene
will also be sponsoring a car show as part
of this yearâ€™s sportsmanâ€™s festival. Entry
fee is $20 per car and money raised goes
towards the churchâ€™s December mission
trip to Mexico. In addition, Poteau Mayor
Jeff Shockley has vowed that should the
church raise $3,000 or more, he will kiss
Also on Saturday there will be live
music and vendors on Dewey Avenue.
Danaâ€™s Boot Camp and Zumba classes will also be performing live demonstrations. There will
be bounce houses, pony rides, and games for kids, as
well as sidewalk sales for the adults.
T-shirs for this yearâ€™s sportsmanâ€™s festival are available
now for pre-order at $9 per shirt.
