Stong winds and warmer temperatures were nothing but kindling for wildfires across LeFlore County Thursday.
Grass fires burst out in several areas across the county, sending Arkoma, Pocola and Murry Spur other fire departments in the southern part of the county into the brush to contain flames pushed by winds gusting up to 40 mph.
According to the National Weather Service, which issued a very high fire danger alert for several counties in southeast Oklahoma, including LeFlore, and northwest Arkansas, conditions are highly favorable to spur wildfires.
Outdoor burning is discouraged during a high fire danger alert.
