Firefighters seek vehicles for training

January 3, 2013

A wreck usually is the last thing a rescue worker wants.
Now they want a good one, or even more.
Area firefighters plan to hold a training exercise in February and are looking for vehicles to teach rescuers how to remove trapped or injured victims.
"We are in need of any type of vehicle one would want to donate," said B.J. Barnes, Poteau Fire Department safety and training officer. "We often do not to perform proper 'hands on' extrication training due to a lack of vehicles.
"Through vehicle donations we are able to train firefighters on the proper way to extricate a patient from a vehicle."
Barnes said the department has received on offer for help on moving any donated vehicles.
"AARC towing has offered to assist us in transporting the vehicles to our training center," Barnes said.
"Any assistance from those willing to donate a car is greatly appreciated," he said..
Anyone with a vehicle to donate may contact department officials at (918) 647-6383.
