Fishing is here; bow season is just around the corner

July 25, 2013

BY GEORGE! — Outdoor columnist George Midgley outdid his sons on a fishing trip last week on the Poteau River, hauling in this three-pound, 12-ounce bass. Photo by Paula Midgley

My boys and I have been hitting the lake on my boat in the last couple of weeks. We have caught several fish, and had one heck of a time.
Paula joined us last week on a trip to the Poteau River. We launched at Potts Landing at Wister Lake, and headed back up the river. The boys were catching fish left and right, and I was struggling to catch anything.
That all changed as the evening time drew near. We headed back to fish a stretch near the boat ramp. On my third cast, I hooked a three-pound, 12-ounce bass that gave me bragging rights for the day.

Just a reminder that there will not be an "Outdoor with Jody Ray" column by Jody Adams this week, since my fellow outdoor columnist is leaving today to head to Green Bay for the start of his beloved Packers' training camp. His column will return on Aug. 2.
Have a great week!
