Florene “Flo” Bowman

Florene “Flo” Bowman of Heavener was born July 12, 1918, in Heavener to the late William Wallace Oliver and Sarah Melissa (Call) Oliver and departed this life on July 30, 2014 in Poteau at the age of 96.
She is survived by her daughters, Paula Fawn and Duncan Folino of Arroya Grandes, Calif., Betty Lou and Alexander Cooper of Poteau; daughter-in-law, Eva “Bootie” Bullard Alexander; three grandchildren,
Kelly D. Cooper, Regina L. Cooper McAlester and Jennifer Robinson; great-grandchildren, Dustin Lee Cooper, Krystal Williamson McMillion, Samie Williamson and Kyle D. Cooper; great-great-grandchildren, McKinna and Landon Joe Cooper; nephew, James Oliver; niece, Sandra Kay Oliver; numerous other relatives and friends. 
Florene was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Walter Matthew Oliver and Charles James Oliver; two husbands, Eldred Wade Alexander and Cecil E. “Snooks” Bowman; and a son, William Wade “Bill” Alexander. Florene was a lifelong resident of Heavener and was retired from the dietary department of the LeFlore County Memorial Hospital. In 1950, she and her father joined the First Baptist Church in Heavener. She served in various capacities within the church for many years. She moved to the Heavener Housing Authority in 1968 where she served on the Housing Board for 25 years. In the 1970s, Florene and her husband Snooks began bowling at Lucky Lanes Bowling Alley in Poteau where they bowled in the Senior League for many years. In 1985 she started helping serve noon meals at the nutrition center. In 1985 she also joined the W.M.U. and was elected W.M.U. director where she serviced until it dismantled in 2005. She played the piano for the Vista Nursing Home singing socials and helped the deacons with their services at the Heavener Nursing Home. She was chairman of the Triple L. Group and helped with food distribution until her eyesight became impaired. In 2000, Florene was named Heavener Woman of the Year. 
Service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 1, at Heavener First Baptist Church with Brother Sam Dyer and the Rev. John Glinski and Phil McGehee officiating.  Burial will be in Heavener Memorial Park under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Gillian Dean Robinson, Delton Rowton, David Long, Tommy Baker, Bob Swinford and Danny Edwards. 
The family will greet friends from 2 p.m. Friday until service time at the church.
