Fly fishing in the Lower Illinois River is in our future

August 22, 2013

My son has started a fly-fishing frenzy at my house. Cash finally got his fly rod a couple of weeks ago, and Koby and I have both used it at the pond by our house. We have some friends from Greers Ferry, Ark., that gave a fly rod to Koby, and I have to pick it up in a couple of weeks. Koby is excited about getting his own now because he caught a 1½-pound bass on Cash’s last week. I guess I will have to get one also and head to Broken Bow or Tenkiller to try and catch some trout.

Trout are not the only fish that can be caught in the Lower Illinois River. Chuck Restine and his son, Dawson, caught several striper one night last weekend on bass rods. I got to do this once last summer, and it was a blast.
Have a great week!
