Foot pursuit ends on courthouse lawn

Poteau Officer catches fleeing suspect on courthouse lawn.

A short foot pursuit involving the Poteau Police Department resulted in the fleeing suspect being captured on the lawn of the LeFlore County Courthouse.
Charles Zumbwalt, 20, of Poteau, was arrested for resisting arrest, possession of marijuana and outstanding LeFlore County warrants .
According to the arrest report, Poteau Officers received information that Zumbwalt would be at the Finish Line convenience store in Poteau located across the street from the courthouse. An officer waited inside the store while others officers waited nearby.
The report shows that when Zumbwalt entered the store, the officer asked to speak with him but Zumbwalt bolted out the front door. The officer gave pursuit and the chase led across the store parking lot then running across Broadway onto the courthouse lawn. The officer caught up with Zumbwalt and was able to take him to the ground and place him in handcuffs.
When the officer lifted Zumbwalt from the ground he allegedly noticed a small bag of marijuana laying on the ground. Zumbwalt reportedly admitted to having purchased the marijuana for his girlfriend.
