FUMC preschoolers learn fire safety and awareness

October 20, 2011

Poteau fireman B.J. Barnes helps a student up inside the ladder truck on Wednesday when the fire department presented a program to the students at the First United Methodist preschool in Poteau. The students were able to learn all about the fire truck and the tools that are needed to fight fire.

Members of the Poteau Fire Department visited with the preschool class at the First United Methodist Church
on Wednesday. They spoke with the young group about the proper things to do if they are ever in danger from
fire. The children learned the stop drop and roll rule along with the special reminder to never hide inside a home
that is on fire. Once they were done learning inside the classroom the children got to inspect a ladder truck and
learned the many functions the truck can offer to help put out fires.
