STILLWATER — There's a lot of high optimism on the side of the Oklahoma State Cowboys football team. This season is supposedly going to be their best since Coach Mike Gundy took over.
The good news was the Pokes handled the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns 61-34 Saturday night at Boone Pickens Stadium. However, while there were some good things Gundy saw, he also saw some not-so-good things.
“It was a good game for us, but I thought we could have played better,” Gundy said. “'I thought the defense played really well. I thought we were good on special teams after we settled in there in the first quarter. We had a couple of mistakes early, and we got those corrected. I thought (place-kicker) Quinn (Sharp) did a nice job. Obviously, the guys who we needed to make plays made plays for us. Tracy (Moore) made a lot of plays early when they were on the top of (Justin) Blackmon and taking him away. That made them somewhat vulnerable in the middle of the field. (Moore) was not only in the right places, but he made the catches. I thought it was good that we were able to play a number of first-year guys. They got to play about 20 to 30 plays, so everybody got a chance to play.”
