Gunman opens fire in Connecticut school; 26 believed dead

A lone gunman has reportedly killed 26 students and staff at a Connecticut elementary school Friday morning.

According to Lt. J. Paul Vance, Connecticut State Police, a gunman entered the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. at 9:30 a.m. Friday morning and opened fire on those inside.
Officers from the Newtown Police Department entered the building and began an active shooter search to bring those trapped inside to safety and to locate the shooter, said Vance.
According to a report by CNN, 26 people had been confirmed dead, 18 of those children.
The shooter, who died at the scene, was located inside the building and two handguns were recovered, said Vance.
