Half marathon joins Vike Hike

December 26, 2013

The annual Carl Albert State College Vike Hike 5K has a new component this year — a half marathon has been added to the event.
Both races are set for Saturday, March 29, in Poteau.
Hali Repass, one of the event organizers, said both courses are USATF certified. The half will travel along the Poteau Scenic Bypass, with northbound lanes shut down to all traffic, then follow the traditional Vike Hike 5K course. Maps for both courses are on MapMyRun.com and at vikehike.carlalbert.edu.
Race administrators encourage early registration by Jan. 15. Early registrants will be able to enter the half for $50 and the 5K for $25. All finishers will receive a medal and a shirt.
Repass said an expo will be held on campus the night prior to the event.
“We are expecting a great crowd and we are busy making sure we have plans in place for runners from the immediate area as well as those traveling from a distance to participate in our event,” Repass said.
“The vikehike.carlalbert.edu site has details about registering, accommodations, and contact information.  We already have people registered from several states and look forward to even more participants as we get closer to the early registration deadline of Jan. 15,” she said.
