Hard to believe the season's almost over; playoffs nearing

November 3, 2013

By the time this column is read, there will only be one more week remaining in the 2013 high school football season. How time flies when you're having fun, right?
The playoffs will begin in two weeks, and it's going to be a banner one for LeFlore County — at least to start.
There will be four teams in the playoffs — Poteau (Class 4A), Spiro (Class 3A), Panama (Class 2A) and Talihina (Class A). The Pirates, Bulldogs and Golden Tigers should do well enough to earn home playoff games, possibly two of them if they get the top seed from their respective districts. If the Hogs can upset Vian on Thursday night, they also could get a home playoff game, but they should do no worse than the No. 3 seed from District 2A-6.
Barring a loss to Webbers Falls in the regular-season finale next Friday night at Mustang Field, Arkoma will be a playoff team — possibly as high as the second seed from District C-4 and be home for the playoffs.
