Hard to believe second half of 2012 season began Friday night

October 5, 2012

Can you believe Friday night's games were the Week 6 contests for the 2012 high school football season? That means we're into the second half of the fall campaign. How time flies when you're having fun, right?
When games kicked off Friday night, several LeFlore County teams were in pretty good shape as far as playoff spots were concerned. Now, be mindful that this page and this column were finished before Friday night's games were finished.
The Poteau Pirates were in a four-way tie at 1-1 for third place District 4A-4, while the Heavener Wolves and Spiro Bulldogs came into their games Friday night at 1-1 in District 3A-8 — setting up a crucial match-up between the two teams at 7:30 p.m. next Friday at Spiro's McClain Stadium. The Pocola Indians were also at 1-1 going into Friday night's District 2A-6 “Pink-Out” game with Wilburton, but the team which is in the best position as the second half of the season started was the Talihina Golden Tigers at 1-0 in District A-6 play (they played Union Christian, Ark., in Week 5 in a non-district contest).
There's still a lot of football to be played, and position moves within the standings to take place over the next four weeks. Let's see how all this plays out.
