Harold Richard "Dick" Wilkerson
Harold Richard "Dick" Wilkerson, 81, of Poteau died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, in Poteau. Dick was born Aug. 3,1933, in Rogersville, Mo., to Samp and Eva (Turner) Wilkerson. He was an educator from 1961 until he retired in 1988. He was a veteran of he U.S Army and he served in Korea. He continued his service in the National Guard for seven years. He was Poteau Chamber of Commerce president in 1988 and received the Man of the Year award in 1988. Dick was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Rogersville. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sandra Richard; and brother, Martin Wilkerson. Suvivors include his wife of 58 years, Ardith Ann; daughter, Cheryl Ann Burleigh of Weatherford; Sn and daughter-in-law, Scott and Joann Wilkerson of Stevensville, Md.; grandchildren, Jane Ann Willkerson of Washington, D.C., Wyatt Wilkerson and Samantha Mason of Stevensville, Md., Laura Ann Burleigh of Weatherford; great-grandchild, Mia Wilkerson of Washington, D.C.; sisters, Helen Gray, Betty Watkins of Springfield, Mo., Dehhie Abney of Republic, Mo.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, students, teachers and friends. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at First Christian Church in Poteau with the Revs. Gary Vancil and Phil McGehee officiating. Pallbearers will be Jim Burleigh, David Butler, Harry Tustin, Kendall Ballew, Larry Hall, Gary Flowers, Ronny Blake, Lynn Lockhart and Don Baetz. The family will visit with relatives and friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening at Evans and Miller Funeral Home.
