Harriet Fallon Kearns Coleman, 95, ofSummerfield died Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, inGrand Rapids, Mich. Harriet was bornFeb. 11, 1916, in Francis to James Hiramand Bessie Idell (Fallon) Kearns. She wasthe youngest of four girls. Her sisters,Nellie Idell, Grace Elizabeth, and RuthEleanor, all are deceased. Harriet graduatedfrom East Central State University in Ada in 1937,then from the University of Oklahoma in Norman in1939.She taught school in Ada for four years, Leflore for 11years and Talihina for 15 years. She was married for 37years to Hershal Augusta Coleman, who died in 1984.Harriet volunteered at age 9 as a babysitter. As an adult,she volunteered as a Future Homemakers of AmericaLeader, at Talimena Drive Information Center, PoteauHospital Auxiliary, Kerr Center, Carl Albert CommunityCollege and Leflore Elementary School. She was a memberof the Campfire Girls of America as a child. She wasa member of Busy Bees Quilting Club for 30 years, Tri-Sigma Sorority for 70 years and the Methodist Church forall of her life. Harriet tickled family members and innumerablefriends with her spunk, wit, generosity, and enthrallingstories.She is survived by her sons, Charles of Norman,Richard (Cindy) of Grand Rapids; niece, Ellen Lee ofTulsa; and grandchildren, Iris and Adam of GrandRapids.Michigan family and friends will visit in Harriet’shonor on Monday, Oct. 24, at the home of Richard andCindy Coleman from 6-8 p.m. Oklahoma family andfriends will memorialize Harriet at Evans and MillerFuneral Home in Poteau at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 3,2012, followed by lunch at Summerfield CommunityCenter, hosted by family and the Busy Bee QuiltingClub.In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation, inHarriet’s memory, to Summerfield Community CenterBusy Bee Club, 34518 Reichert-Summerfield Rd., Wister,OK 74966.Online messages may be left at evansandmillerfuneralhomes.com.
