Heat may be most important issue football teams will deal with as practice begins Tuesday

August 6, 2011

There's always some kind of heat issues high school football teams will deal with when practice begins every August. But this year, when practice begins Tuesday for the 2011 season, this summer's heatwave may be the worst ever. Thus, it's making the teams plan accordingly.
“I've never seen heat like this,” Spiro Coach Chris Bunch said. “We've got to be real careful because of it. We can't take a chance of the kids getting hurt. One thing, we're going to give them as much water as possible, and we probably won't go as long as we normally would.”
“It's plenty hot, but I was reading (Wednesday) that there were two kids wound up getting overheated and passing away in Georgia, and a coach in Texas that ended up dying due to heat,” First-year Bokoshe Coach Tyler Massey said. “You have to be extremely careful. There's work to be done, but you have to use your head about it.”
