Heavener athletic program set to make history as its first cross country season will begin Thursday at Tahlequah Meet

August 24, 2011

At 4 p.m. Thursday, history will be made by the Heavener High School athletic program.
That time will mark the beginning of the first-ever cross country season at the school as the Wolves and Lady Wolves will run at the Tahlequah “Early Tiger” Meet.
The teams will be coached by Kristen Andrews. She has had quite a start to the first-ever program, as both teams will field a complete team and not just have a few individuals. Last fall, there were four junior high girls who ran, but never in an organized meet. This fall, it's a complete turnaround.
The Wolves have runners on the roster. Dakotah McGee and Arturo Ortega both ran in the Poteau Preseason Meet on Aug. 13 at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex (PARC). McGee was seventh, while Ortega was ninth.
The rest of the roster is comprised of Cesar Gonzales, David Rangel, Jose´ Farias, Kaleb Ary, Octavio Sanchez, Rey Diaz, Shaun Bradley and Jesus Benitez.
On the Lady Wolves' side of things, Johna Enger also ran in the Poteau Preseason Meet Aug. 13 as she was eighth.
Enger will be joined on the Heavener girls' roster by Araceli Farias, Caitlyn Carson, Jazmin Cruz, Kaylen Leder, Karen Reyes and Amber Holt.
