Heavener boys only runners who get to run Chili Pepper Invitational; cold rain washes out remainder of event

October 10, 2013

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The good news was the Heavener Wolves cross country team got to run in Saturday's Chili Pepper Invitational.
However, due to the cold rainstorm that moved through, the Lady Wolves did not get to participate as the rest of the event was rained out. Poteau's runners were scheduled to participate, but did not go.
The small school boys division had close to 700 runners in the field. Arturo Ortega was Heavener's highest finisher as he was 321st (21:35). Frank Cruz was 397th (22:21), Jacob Robertson 524th (24:30), Estaban Martinez 551st (25:04), James Horner 584th (26:28) and Aaron Baker 614th (33:25).
The Heavener runners will run in their regular-season finale today at the Oklahoma Baptist University Invitational at Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech Center, the site of the Class 3A State Meet on Oct. 26.
The Poteau runners will run in the Claremore Invitational at 4:15 this afternoon in their regular-season finale.
